Chrystal Paulos Shares Roadmap for Next-Generation Cancer Immunotherapy
Chrystal Paulos, Co-leader of the Cancer Immunology Program at Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University, shared a post on LinkedIn about a paper by Stefanie R Bailey et al. published on BMJ Journals:
“Thrilled to share our new position article in the Journal for ImmunoTherapy of Cancer, co-led with Avery Posey, Jr., Ph.D. at the University of Pennsylvania, on engineering the next wave of antibody and cellular immune therapies.
Over the past decade, immune-oncology (IO) has transformed cancer care, from checkpoint inhibitors to CAR T cells, bispecifics, ADCs, and engineered TILs. Yet many patients still relapse or never respond.
This roadmap by first author Stefanie Bailey at UVA outlines how next-generation constructs , from armored CAR and TCR cells, to bispecific/trispecific antibodies, immune-stimulatory antibody conjugates, in vivo gene editing, and AI-driven platforms, can advance IO toward more precise, durable, and scalable cures.
Key highlights:
- Smarter designs to enhance specificity, persistence, and safety
- Armored T cells and logic-gated constructs optimized for solid tumors
- The rise of engineered NK, macrophage, and B cell therapies
- How AI is accelerating discovery, manufacturing, and clinical insights
- Strategies to improve access and equity worldwide
- Proud to collaborate with this powerhouse team of co-authors:
Stefanie Bailey (University of Virginia), Eric Bartee (University of New Mexico), Kyle Daniels (Stanford University), Chris Heery (Arcellx), Pravin Kaumaya (Indiana University), Gregory Lesinski (Emory University), Tim Lowinger (Mersana Therapeutics), Michelle Nelson (Aptevo Therapeutics), Mark Rubinstein (Ohio State University), Megen Wittling (Emory University), Chrystal Paulos (Emory University), and Avery Posey (University of Pennsylvania).
And special thanks to SITC Staff for their support of this roadmap.
