Ana Zilic: The need to tailor the antiemetic treatment in the resoursce limited settings

Ana Zilic, Medical Director and Oncologist at Parexel, reshared a post by The Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer (MASCC) on LinkedIn, adding:

“Prevention of chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting is an important topic for the quality of life of patients with cancer. This goal is not possible without antiemetic treatment, that should ideally be available for all patients.

Thank you MASCC for recognizing the need to tailor the antiemetic treatment in the resoursce limited settings!

A wonderful team collaboration has led to this publication.

I hope these recommendations will help to offer patients effective antiemetics despite the resource challanges.”

Quoting The Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer (MASCC)‘s post:

“Just published!

MASCC Antiemetic Consensus Recommendations: Resource-Limited Settings.

Prevention of chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) remains an essential supportive care need for patients receiving cancer treatment. Due to inadequate access to antiemetics in many countries, guideline-recommended CINV prophylaxis is not always possible.

This paper formulates antiemetic recommendations for resource-limited settings and defines alternative antiemetic regimens for the CINV prophylaxis after highly and moderately emetic chemotherapy, when NK1-receptor antagonists are not accessible.
