At Global Voices in Renal Oncology (VIRO) 2025, organized by OncoDaily, Dr. Bryan Lewis, CEO and Co-Founder of KidneyCAN, delivered a talk on “KidneyCAN: Patient-Driven Movement to Accelerate Cures.”
Dr. Lewis emphasized the role of U.S. government policy in shaping medical research funding and explained the mission of KidneyCAN, a nonprofit organization dedicated to accelerating cures for kidney cancer. He shared the story of the organization since its establishment, outlined the groups and institutions that support its work, and highlighted its efforts to provide patient education and support through social media and community engagement.
He also spoke about the organization’s research grant programs and underlined the importance of advocacy, stressing that every citizen has the power—and responsibility—to ask their political representatives questions about funding and policy for cancer research. Dr. Lewis noted that KidneyCAN organizes regular advocacy events to connect patients, caregivers, clinicians, and policymakers, ensuring that the voices of the kidney cancer community are heard at the national level.
