Now speaking at Global Voices in Renal Oncology (VIRO) 2025 organized by OncoDaily: Dr. Armine Badeyan, Acting Director at Radioisotope Production Center, on the topic “Radiological Assessment of Small Renal Masses”.
She emphasized the importance of careful radiological assessment of small renal masses. She discussed cysts using the Bosniak classification, the challenges of differentiating angiomyolipomas—including lipid-poor variants—from RCC using ultrasound, CT, and MRI, and the role of advanced imaging parameters like the internal-to-external circle ratio.
Dr. Badeyan also reviewed oncocytomas, noting the limitations of imaging in distinguishing them from RCC, and emphasized CT evaluation in multiple phases to identify renal cell carcinoma subtypes and detect subtle lesions, including segmental enhancement inversion patterns. Her talk underscored that precise imaging and careful interpretation are critical to guide treatment, avoid unnecessary surgery, and ensure early detection of malignancy.
