Michael Sapienza Highlights a New Push to Make Colorectal Cancer Screening Easier

Michael Sapienza, Chief Executive Officer of the Colorectal Cancer Alliance, shared on LinkedIn:

“I’m proud to share a new resource from the Colorectal Cancer Alliance designed to answer a simple question that can make a meaningful difference: Why did I just receive a colorectal cancer screening test in the mail?

More health plans are sending use-at-home screening kits like Cologuard® HCP directly to eligible members to make colorectal cancer screening easier and more convenient. But when a test arrives unexpectedly, people may not know why they received it, whether it is legitimate, or what they are supposed to do next.

That information gap can get in the way of lifesaving action.

Colorectal cancer is the second deadliest cancer in the U.S., yet when caught early, it has a 91% survival rate. Screening can help detect colorectal cancer earlier, when it is more treatable, and some screening tests can also detect precancerous conditions.

That’s why we partnered with Abbott to launch a new online hub that explains why people may receive a screening kit, what to know before completing it, and when to talk with a healthcare provider.

A screening test sitting unopened at someone’s home is an opportunity we cannot afford to miss.

If you receive a screening kit, don’t ignore it. Learn why you received it and what steps to take next.

Explore the new hub.

Learn more about colorectal cancer screening, symptoms, and risk factors.”
