Dean Crowe: What Started as Small, Early-Stage Funding Has Led to Real Progress

Dean Crowe, Founder and CEO of Rally Foundation for Childhood Cancer Research, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Life has a way of surprising us in the most delightful ways.

This is my granddaughter, the first girl born in our family since me. After a lifetime surrounded by boys, I picked up this sweet baby girl and burst out laughing. There were ruffles on her bottom. I didn’t expect it, but I absolutely loved it.

That unexpected joy, the kind that takes you by surprise and fills you with hope, reminded me of something else that has had more impact than I ever imagined: Rally’s early investments in childhood cancer research.

As we begin celebrating Rally Foundation for Childhood Cancer Research’s 20th anniversary this September, I’ve been reflecting on how we are often the first to fund a project as philanthropic seed investors. What started as small, early-stage funding has led to real progress, from discoveries in the lab to clinical trials that are helping kids today.

Thanks to our dual peer-review process, Rally continues to fund high-potential research with both hope and rigor. The results speak for themselves, and I’m excited to share some of these successes with you all.

Some surprises come with ruffles. Some come with research. Both are worth celebrating.
