“What I’m reading: My colleague John Hennessy just shared an article describing the travel-time disparities in access to proton beam therapy for cancer treatment.
While mostly the data tracked with population density, I was surprised to see that the San Francisco Bay area, including Silicon Valley, has no centers within a 4-hour drive.
I’d love to see a bit more granularity in the high end – the difference between 4 hours and 12 hours is pretty vast! Does anyone know of similar mapping done on other specialized treatments? Geographic limitations are a key factor in access to healthcare.”
