Ashley Love Sumrall: Must reads and often quoted at our tumor boards

Ashley Love Sumrall shared a post on X/Twitter:

I have praised the work of Shawn Hervey-Jumper for years. It was so nice to chat and reflect on how he cares for patients with glioma at the UCSF Department of Neurological Surgery. He is widely published. I’m linking some favourites. They are “must reads” and often quoted on our tumour boards.

The WHY. My favourite. The extent of resection matters! There is a direct correlation to survival. More WHY in low-grade glioma. “The extent of resection… improve survival, symptom management, and time to malignant transformation in low-grade gliomas.”

The HOW. How-to safely resect gliomas by Shawn Hervey-Jumper and Mitchel Berger. More of the HOW. Newest review from Hervey-Jumper.

Lastly, I love this paper on reoperation for High-Grade Glioma (HGG). Extent of resection at reoperation suggests Overall Survival (based on limited data), even if subtotal resection at initial operation. Careful patient selection needed. Avoid low Karnofsky Performance Status, recent Bevacizumab.”
