Anas Younes: I think there is a need to reset expectations of what a physician scientist (PS) means.
Anas Younes, Senior VP, Global Head of Hematology (Early and Late Stage), Oncology R&D at AstraZeneca, made the following post on Twitter:
“I think there is a need to reset expectations of what a physician scientist (PS) means. There is no need to expect every PS to become and independent PI with an independent funding and lab. Most will end up wasting time and money without advancing the field. It is ok to stay in a large, well established, well funded lab, do a good research on human biospecimens, be the link between the clinic and the lab, and help advancing the field. To do that, the academic reward system needs to change!”
