ASCO24 Updates: Predicting Melanoma Treatment with Combined Imaging

The American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Annual Meeting is one of the largest and most prestigious conferences in the field of oncology. This year, the meeting took place from May 31 to June 4 in Chicago, Illinois. The event gathers oncologists, researchers, and healthcare professionals from around the world to discuss the latest advancements in cancer research, treatment, and patient care. Keynote sessions, research presentations, and panel discussions are typically part of the agenda, providing attendees with valuable insights into emerging trends and innovations in oncology.

This year, OncoDaily was at ASCO 2024 for the first time covering the meeting on-site. We had the pleasure of interviewing researchers who summarized the highlights of their work.

In this video Milton José de Barros e Silva, MD, Medical Oncologist at the A.C.Camargo Cancer Center in São Paulo, Brazil, presents his poster on ”Analysis of neoadjuvant nivolumab and ipilimumab for clinical stage III melanoma using the SWOG S1801 event-free survival definition.

Hello, my name is Milton Barros. I’m a medical oncologist at the Issi Camargo Cancer Center in Brazil. And I’m here to talk about my poster, which refers to the combined analysis of PET-CT and RESIST to predict pathological response in patients with stage three melanoma undergoing to neoadjuvant, nivolumab, and ipilimumab.

PET response are associated with major pathological response in 100% of case in this combined analysis. On the other hand, patients with non-response are associated with non-major pathological response in 89% of case. We hope this data could contribute for the development of clinical trials using PET response to tailor treatment in neoadjuvant scenario, or offering less surgery for responders, or discussing changing the systemic treatment before surgery.
