Dr. Mohamed Emam Sobeih, MD, is a consultant medical oncologist, academic leader, and emerging global voice in oncology education. He currently serves as Head of the Oncology Unit at Al-Mehwar Hospital and Council Member of the European School of Oncology (ESO) College, where he also holds the role of Co-Chair of the Membership Working Group. Dr. Sobeih is widely recognized for his dedication to expanding high-quality oncology training and promoting evidence-based cancer care across Egypt and beyond.

Dr. Sobeih’s career is deeply rooted in the National Cancer Institute (NCI), Cairo University, where his early exposure to the immense clinical burden of cancer care shaped both his professional identity and his commitment to global oncology. Caring for thousands of patients daily in a resource-limited setting cultivated his vision to bridge clinical excellence with research advancement. He rose through the ranks from senior specialist to Assistant Lecturer, later becoming Lecturer of Medical Oncology, and currently serves as Deputy Director of the NCI, contributing to both institutional leadership and national cancer control efforts.

With a strong interest in thoracic malignancies and mesothelioma, Dr. Sobeih has been an active Committee Member of the IASLC Mesothelioma Panel since 2023, engaging in international collaborations aimed at improving outcomes for patients with rare and aggressive lung cancers. He is also the Founder and Chairman of the Egypt Capital Oncology Center (ECOC), an initiative designed to elevate cancer research, multidisciplinary care, and training opportunities in Egypt.

Dr. Sobeih’s academic foundation includes advanced oncology education from leading European institutions. He earned a Diploma in Oncology from Ulm University with distinction, as well as a Diploma in Medical Oncology (Thoracic Malignancies) from the University of Zurich, graduating with excellent performance. He holds an MBBS degree from Kasr Al-Ainy School of Medicine, where he graduated with top honors.

Across all his roles, Dr. Sobeih’s work is driven by a desire to combine robust scientific inquiry with compassionate, equitable patient care. His clinical focus includes diagnosis, staging, and treatment of solid tumors with an emphasis on delivering evidence-based therapy. His long-term goal is to continue growing as an academic hematologist–oncologist, contributing to high-impact clinical research while shaping the next generation of oncologists.

Through his leadership in national and international committees, commitment to oncology education, and continued work in expanding access to quality cancer care, Dr. Mohamed Emam Sobeih stands as an important contributor to the future of oncology in Egypt and within the broader global community.
