Gabriele Todisco

Hematologist

Humanitas University

Italy, Milan

Dr. Gabriele Todisco is an Assistant Professor of Hematology at Humanitas University and a clinician–scientist recognized for his work in translational research in myeloid neoplasms. He is board-certified in both hematology and internal medicine, with an academic and clinical career spanning leading institutions in Italy, Sweden, and the United States.

Dr. Todisco earned his medical degree from Vita-Salute San Raffaele University in Milan in 2009, followed by residency training in Internal Medicine (2010–2015) at the same institution. He subsequently completed his hematology residency at the University of Pavia (2015–2019), refining his expertise in benign and malignant hematologic disorders.

His early research career included a postdoctoral fellowship at the Leukemia Department of MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston (2014–2015), where he gained foundational training in leukemia biology. From 2019 to 2021, he served as a postdoctoral researcher at the Center for Hematology and Regenerative Medicine at the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, further expanding his work in molecular hematology. He later joined the University of Pavia as an Assistant Professor in Hematology (2021–2022) before assuming his current academic role at Humanitas University.

Dr. Todisco’s research focuses on advancing the molecular understanding of myeloid neoplasms, particularly myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS). Since 2018, he has led translational projects integrating high-resolution DNA sequencing and RNA sequencing data to refine disease classification, improve prognostication, and uncover germline and acquired mechanisms driving disease initiation and progression. His work aims to bridge molecular discoveries with clinical decision-making to enhance personalized therapies for patients with myeloid malignancies.

He is affiliated with the Eva Hellström-Lindberg Myelodysplastic Syndromes Research Group at the Department of Medicine, Huddinge, Karolinska Institutet, where he continues active research collaborations. Dr. Todisco is also a member of the Italian Society of Hematology and the Nordic MDS Research Group, contributing to international efforts to improve care for patients with bone marrow failure syndromes.

He is a Member of the Editorial Board of OncoDaily.
