Radiotherapy had another active week on LinkedIn, with updates across pediatric radiotherapy, head and neck cancer, rectal cancer, pelvic oncology, prostate cancer biomarkers, SGRT, cervical cancer elimination, patient awareness, and personal reflections from the field.
Several posts highlighted how the field is advancing through collaboration and education. Lisbeth Cordero Mendez shared a new IAEA and St. Jude publication focused on strengthening pediatric radiotherapy training worldwide, while Sebastian Adeberg shared updates from the 3rd Marburg Head and Neck Symposium, covering immunotherapy, local therapy options, diagnostics, and interdisciplinary tumor board discussions.
Clinical research and innovation were also strongly represented, including real-world outcomes with dose-escalated total neoadjuvant therapy for rectal cancer, new work on immunological and inflammatory biomarkers in prostate radiotherapy, and C-RAD’s focus on surface-guided radiation therapy at ESTRO Meets Asia.
Global access remained an important theme, with the Elekta Foundation hosting discussions with African ambassadors on accelerating cervical cancer elimination through HPV screening, treatment access, and country-specific implementation.
The week also showed the human side of radiation oncology, from reflections on motherhood and pediatric cancer care to patient awareness campaigns and storytelling beyond the clinic.
Together, these posts reflect a field moving forward through technology, evidence, education, advocacy, and people-centered care.

Aware of the multiple challenges faced by Children with cancer; IAEA and St Jude embarked on a mission to support Paediatric Radiotherapy worldwide, identifying the gaps in education and training for staff involved in the treatment of children with cancer with radiotherapy. In a joint effort to address these gaps our first publication is ready!
The aims of this publication are:
-To highlight to national and local policy makers, health administrators, health
professionals, patients and caregivers, and other stakeholders the importance of education and competence for health professionals in paediatric radiotherapy to improve cancer outcomes in general;
-To recognize that competent radiation therapy professionals are essential for accurate childhood cancer care;
-To empower radiation therapy educators to enhance paediatric specific content in their programmes and to guide education professionals and administrators in training

There are days in this specialty that run long, and nights on call that run longer.
On some of them my daughters come to see me. It sounds like a small thing and it isn’t: twenty minutes in a corridor with three (now four!) children who have no interest whatsoever in what I do for a living resets something that coffee does not. They’re also my biggest fans!
Being a mother is also, honestly, part of what drew me to pediatric radiation oncology. Not in a soft way. It made the logic of the field legible to me in a way it hadn’t been before. The trade-offs in pediatrics are not made against months of survival. They are made against decades of a life that has not happened yet. Not to mention the lives of the families of the little ones.
It is also, without a doubt, the hardest work I have done. There are tolls that one is only willing to pay because this field is truly a calling; a mission, not just a practice.

Radiation therapy and immunity in prostate cancer:Very pleased to share our published review on immunological and inflammatory biomarkers in patients with localized or locally advanced prostate cancer treated with radiotherapy.
👀 In particular, we explore the role of NLR, CRP, cytokines, tumor microenvironment, ctDNA and other emerging biomarkers.
This is a promising field for better understanding the response to radiotherapy and moving towards **precision radiotherapy**, even if clinical validation is still necessary for most of these markers.

Five African countries, one shared ambition: accelerating #CervicalCancerElimination
Yesterday, it was a real pleasure to host the Ambassadors of #Rwanda, #Kenya, #Tanzania, #Zimbabwe, and #Nigeria to the #Nordics at the Elekta Foundation for a conversation about how we can turn this shared ambition into action.
We know how to prevent cervical cancer for adult women. We have the tools for screening and effective treatment for precancer. The challenge is making these tools accessible to every woman who needs them.
Our discussion focused on practical questions: how to expand access to affordable, quality-assured #HPVscreening, strengthen the pathway from screening to treatment, mobilize resources, and adapt solutions to the needs and cancer care systems of each country.
Rwanda has shown us what becomes possible when political commitment, local ownership, and practical implementation come together. Now there is an opportunity to take those lessons further, while recognizing that every country will need its own approach.
Five countries. Different contexts. A shared goal: making cervical cancer elimination a reality.
Thank you to Their Excellencies and colleagues from Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, and Nigeria for such an open and forward-looking discussion. The opportunity is in front of us. Now we need to turn shared ambition into measurable progress!
