American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) shared on LinkedIn:
“New in practicalRO: ASTRO publishes updated guideline on radiation therapy for localized prostate cancer
ASTRO’s updated guideline recommends moderate hypofractionation over conventional fractionation for patients across all risk groups.

SBRT is now strongly recommended for patients with intermediate-risk disease and those with low-risk disease who decline active surveillance, a change from the conditional recommendation in 2018.
See ASTRO’s news release for a detailed summary.”
Jarad Martin, Senior Staff Specialist of Department of Radiation Oncology at Calvary Mater Hospital, added:
“Amazing that within a decade, informed by a series of clinical trials, we’ve gone from 8+ weeks of RT for all prostate cancer, to 4 weeks for most, and even five days as a mainstream option. Coupled with all of the motion management, conformality and adaptive innovations, undoubtedly a golden age for radiation oncology.”
