Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu, UICC President-Elect of 2024-2026, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“In my capacity as the Vice Chair of the National Task Force for Cervical Cancer Elimination, working alongside our amiable and esteemed Chairman, Isaac F. Adewole, I am proud to join the global call to action on this International Cervical Cancer Elimination Day of Action.
Together, we are advancing efforts in HPV vaccination, screening, diagnostics, and public awareness to achieve the World Health Organization’s 90:70:90 targets by 2030.
This day reminds us of the urgent need to eliminate cervical cancer as a public health concern.
It is a powerful opportunity to reflect on the progress we have made, recommit to bridging gaps in healthcare access, strengthen partnerships to save lives, and ensure a healthier future for women in Nigeria and beyond.”
Dr. Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu is a global cancer advocate, a pediatrician, UICC President-Elect of 2024-2026, a UICC Board Member, a Founder of the Medicaid Cancer Foundation, and the Chairperson of First Ladies Against Cancer (FLAC).
Dr. Bagudu is working with the state ministries of health, education, and women’s affairs to implement programs to sustainably improve menstrual hygiene, girl-child education, economic empowerment of women, and put an end to gender-based violence.
