Mila Pontremoli Salcedo: The EMPOWER Offers HPV Self-Collection to Unhoused Individuals
Mila Pontremoli Salcedo, Assistant Professor at MD Anderson Cancer Center, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Thrilled to share our team published The EMPOWER Study in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Amazing partnership with Marian Yvette Williams-Brown and collaborators in Austin, Texas. We worked to offer HPV self-collection to unhoused individuals. The powerful results showed that HPV self-collection is feasible in this population, while also highlighting the need to continually strengthen efforts to follow-up care.
This work came from a collaboration between MD Anderson and UT Austin, supported by The University of Texas at Austin/MD Anderson Cancer Center Collaborative Pilot Project grant, CPRIT and the Foundation for Women’s Cancer. It was presented at SGO earlier this year and now published.
I’m proud of our team, first author Parisa Fallah, MD, our partners and patient navigators who made this possible. And I’m hopeful that this is just the beginning of expanding access to cervical cancer prevention for this population. Read the study below.”
