Carlos Rodriguez-Galindo: Raising Awareness of the Global Platform for Access to Childhood Cancer Medicines

Carlos Rodriguez-Galindo, EVP and Chair, Department of Global Pediatric Medicine at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Thank you to all who joined us for Closing the Gaps: Raising Awareness of the Global Platform for Access to Childhood Cancer Medicines, a stakeholder engagement webinar hosted by St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and World Health Organization. Your participation, questions and feedback during this virtual event will help us develop resources and better meet the needs of countries and partners on the front lines.
We would also like to thank Pan American Health Organization, UNICEF, International Society of Paediatric Oncology – SIOP and all others for their collaboration in working to close the global treatment gap for childhood cancer. Your shared mission and support advance this transformative work.
Together, we’re building something truly unprecedented. So far, the platform has accomplished:
A 5-year, $200 million commitment from St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Essential cancer medicines delivered to 30 hospitals in 6 countries getting ready for the next 6 countries to come.
Thousands of children gaining access to quality-assured, life-saving treatments.
Each milestone moves us closer to permanently changing the global landscape for access to childhood cancer medicines. A special thanks to the countries and colleagues who shared insights at this virtual event:
  • Ecuador – Silvia Lissette Mármol Egas
  • Mongolia – Amarjargal Choijoo
  • Uzbekistan – Barno Abdusamatova
  • Zambia – Bwalya Agrippa Simunyola
  • Nepal – Dr. Krishna Prasad Paudel

Additional thanks to:
  • WHO – Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Professor Jérôme SALOMON and Guy Fones
  • PAHO – Christopher Lim

This webinar marks the first in a regular series to deepen engagement, share learnings and strengthen partnerships as we move toward our shared goal: raising childhood cancer survival to over 60% globally.
With appreciation to global champions advancing this cause: Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, André Ilbawi, Santiago Millan, Jeremy Farrar, Bente Mikkelsen, Toby Kasper, Beth Anne Miller, Catherine Lam, Nickhill Bhakta, Jane Hankins, Jennifer Pauley, OncoDaily, and all our incredible civil society organizations and frontline partners.
This global effort belongs to all of us.”
