Arthur Sun Myint: Beacon of hope for patients with rectal cancer wishing to avoid major surgery and a stoma
Arthur Sun Myint, Lead Clinician (Papillon) at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre NHS Foundation Trust, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Beacon of hope for those patients with rectal cancer wishing to avoid major surgery and a stoma. There is nothing to loose if it didn’t work. Salvage can be carried out at a later date for those with residual disease or a regrowth after EBCRT and CXB (Papillon) as shown in the OPERA trial 5-year results.
There is no compromise in their chance of cure by careful ‘watch and wait’ followup to pick up regrowth of disease at early stage in the first 2 years where the like hood of failure is common.
A new hope for patients.”
