“New Open Access commentary in Cancer: Consensus-built recommendations to improve prostate cancer outcomes: A summary of the American Cancer Society Prostate Cancer Collaborative
Prostate cancer incidence is rising in the U.S., and disparities persist across populations. This collaborative report from the ACS outlines actionable strategies to enhance screening, treatment, and access to care, aiming to reduce mortality and advance equity.
Three strategic priorities are highlighted:
- Increasing screening uptake and risk assessment, with emphasis on educating providers and high-risk populations (e.g., Black patients who may benefit from earlier screening)
- Optimizing treatment for localized prostate cancer to improve survival
- Harnessing emerging tools and technologies to better manage advanced disease
To tackle these challenges, the ACS launched the American Cancer Society National Prostate Cancer Roundtable (ACS NPCRT), an initiative to coordinate efforts across organizations, standardize care, and accelerate implementation of best practices.
The NPCRT also focuses on addressing disparities in access to next-generation screening, imaging, and therapies, ensuring that all patients have the opportunity for high-quality, equitable prostate cancer care.
