Carmen Monge-Montero: We finished the ‘Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Principles in Cancer Care’ Training Event
Carmen Monge-Montero, Researcher and patient advocate at Youth Cancer Europe, recently shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Hi Network!
Last week, we finished the ‘Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Principles in Cancer Care’ Training Event and Toolkit.
This event was with Inclusive Employers and the European Network of Youth Cancer Survivors, co-funded by the European Commission.
For 10 days, the EU-CAYAS project trained three important groups: cancer researchers, healthcare providers, and patient organizations, including people living with and beyond cancer. This event was also a test for our Train-the-Trainer Toolkit.
It is designed to help different roles in the healthcare system, especially focusing on the needs of underrepresented groups.
I was lucky to attend the training for cancer researchers.
We learned about EDI (Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion), the current situation in Europe, and how to use the toolkit and EDI recommendations in our research. We focused a lot on the needs of underrepresented groups.
I met amazing researchers from all over Europe. They are very eager to improve the way we do clinical trials and research.
I am excited to see how this training will change research, cancer care in hospitals, and how we treat people with and beyond cancer.
Thank you to Emily Pattinson, Nozomi T., Katie Rizvi, Victor Girbu, Oana Rusu, Hannah, Hilda and Cristina Trifulescu for all your planning and hard work!
Let’s make a difference together.”
