Richard Shadyac: Under Doc Mae’s leadership, and through partnership with St. Jude Global, childhood cancer survival rates in the Philippines have risen from less than 10% to 50%
In a post on LinkedIn by Richard Shadyac, the President & CEO of ALSAC, it says,
“I’ve had the opportunity to speak to a number of groups and people this FedEx St. Jude Championship week about the impact — and potential — of the St. Jude mission, and when I do, I keep coming back to talking about Dr. Mae Dolendo. Dr. Dolendo — OK, so she goes by Doc Mae — is a pediatric oncologist, St. Jude Scholar and a true force of nature who developed the pediatric oncology program at the Children’s Cancer Institute at Southern Philippines Medical Center in Davao City and founded the House of Hope Foundation for Kids with Cancer. Under Doc Mae’s leadership, and through partnership with St. Jude Global, childhood cancer survival rates in the Philippines have risen from less than 10% to 50%.
She was in Memphis recently and spoke to ALSAC and I’m so inspired by her words: “People like me who want to change the world, we must never forget why we do what we do — it’s all about saving children.”
