William Oh: For the first time, there will be more than 2 million new US cancer cases in 2024, led in men by prostate cancer
William Oh, Chief Medical Officer at the Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF), shared on LinkedIn:
“For the first time, there will be >2 million new US cancer cases in 2024, led in men by prostate cancer. ‘Since 2014, prostate cancer incidence has risen by 3%/year, mostly driven by 4–5%/year increases for regional and distant-stage diagnoses…. (Over) half of men in the US living with metastatic prostate cancer were initially diagnosed with localized or regional stage disease.’
This is alarming and suggests that less screening in certain populations is leading to later diagnosis. But perhaps the disease is evolving as well.”
