Erman Akkus: GIMs should be suspected in case of anemia or GI bleeding in patient with a history of RCC

Erman Akkus, Medical Oncology Fellow at Ankara University, shared on X/Twitter:

“Gastrointestinal metastasis (GIM) of RCC GETUG retrospective study

  • 74 patients
  • Mostly gastric and duodenal
  • Median time from diagnosis to GIM: 5.4 years, from first metastasis to GIM: 1.9 years
  • 19% were synchronous to non-GI metastases, 5% were GIM without non-GI metastasis
  • 37% already had 2 or more systemic treatments at the onset of GIM
  • 70% were symptomatic -> anemia, GI bleeding
  • Median OS was 19 months after detection of GIM

GIMs should be suspected in case of anemia or GI bleeding in patient with a history of RCC.”
