Rally Kid Alexa’s story

rally foundation

Just after her first birthday, Alexa was diagnosed with stage 4 Neuroblastoma, with only a 20% chance of survival. Enrolled in a clinical trial, she underwent years of surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation. Although she enjoyed a few healthy childhood years, the treatments led to severe medical issues, including a curved spine that compressed her lungs, reducing her lung capacity to 20%.

In 2008, Alexa underwent successful surgery in St. Louis to correct her spine, allowing her to breathe more easily. Back in Atlanta, she engaged in therapy and resumed her vibrant life. Despite her challenges, Alexa was a bright, joyful girl who loved school, music, and her friends.

At the age of 11, on November 28, 2008, she passed away on Thanksgiving Day, surrounded by her family.

About Rally Foundation

The Rally Foundation for Childhood Cancer Research was founded in 2005 when a 17-year-old boy named William was fighting a brain tumor for the second time in two years. Rally Founder and CEO, Dean Crowe, asked a simple yet powerful question: “What can I do to help? And I will not make you dinner. This situation is so past dinner.”

William’s mother responded, “Raise money for childhood cancer research and fund the best research wherever it may be.” It was this response that inspired the mission of Rally Foundation.

As a nonprofit organization, Rally Foundation empowers volunteers across the country to raise awareness and funds for childhood cancer research. The organization is focused on finding better treatments with fewer long-term side effects and, ultimately, cures. The foundation is inspired by each child who has fought or is fighting cancer, and they are driven to continue their efforts to help these young warriors. Through its commitment to funding innovative research, Rally aims to improve the lives of children battling cancer and to make a significant impact on pediatric oncology.
