Sofiat Akinola: Investing in the elimination of cervical cancer, when funding is lacking
Sofiat Akinola, Director at Roche Diagnostics, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Investing in the elimination of cervical cancer, when funding is lacking.
The ‘Together for Health Funding’ report highlights significant gaps that must be addressed to meet the WHO’s 2030 elimination targets.
In 2023, funding for HPV vaccination increased by 244.5%, reaching $203.3 million.
Yet, investment in screening and treatment decreased by 18.2%, falling to $54.9 million.
What is the current funding pace?
We are at only 18% of the $10.5 billion required by 2030.
By taking action now, we could save millions of lives and generate $28 billion in economic benefits by 2050.
Prevention works; for every $1 invested, there is a return of $3.20 in economic benefits.
