UICC and Zambia’s Ministry of Health Sign MoU to Improve Cancer Care

The Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), representing the ATOM Coalition, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Zambia’s Ministry of Health to improve access to cancer medicines and diagnostics.

This agreement is a major step forward in addressing cancer care in low-income countries.

Zambia is one of 46 countries selected by the ATOM Coalition to receive support in improving access to life-saving cancer treatments.

Through this partnership, Zambia’s Ministry of Health and Cancer Diseases Hospital (CDH) will work to strengthen national cancer care, supported by the Coalition’s global network of partners.

“The MoU underscores the commitment of Zambia’s Ministry of Health to harness the Coalition’s resources in overcoming existing challenges related to cancer in Zambia, including barriers to screening, treatment, and care.”

Dr. Dan Milner, Executive Director, ATOM Coalition

The Zambia Cancer Society, a key UICC member, has been instrumental in facilitating this agreement and continues to play a vital role in strengthening local cancer care efforts.

This MoU is the third country agreement under the ATOM Coalition, following similar partnerships with Mongolia and El Salvador. The goal is to ensure that quality cancer medicines are accessible to all, regardless of income.

UICC shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Exciting news!

UICC has reached a key milestone by signing an MoU with the Ministry of Health of Zambia on behalf of the ATOM Coalition, with support from UICC member Zambia Cancer Society.

This partnership will aid Zambia in overcoming barriers to cancer screening, treatment, and care, improving outcomes for cancer patients. This is the third ATOM Coalition country engagement, following agreements with Mongolia in 2023 and El Salvador earlier this year.”
