Steven O’Day: Today is World Cancer Research Day, which is a good day for me to share three things.

“Today is World Cancer Research Day, which is a good day for me to share three things:

– First, patients who participate in clinical trials are the people who make cancer research possible so this is their day. It’s been among my greatest privileges in life to experience the courage and help to realize the hopes of patients fighting cancer.

– Second, where immuno-oncology (I-O) research is concerned, I feel a unique obligation to reflect on how far we’ve come and where I believe we’re going. I was among the first clinicians to treat patients with early I-O therapy (ipilimumab) more than two decades ago and now I am among the first clinicians to see the promising early results of next-generation I-O.

– Third, I look forward to being a more frequent contributor to these digital communities in which so much of our mutual awareness happens. I commit to sharing the progress of Agenus in developing next-generation immune activators such as botensilimab. I will also speak about our field more broadly, expand my interactions with researchers, and engage more patients. A podcast devoted to the potential of immuno-oncology is also in the works.

We will have a lot to discuss. Stay tuned!”
