The KWF Young Investigator Grant 2027, offered by the Dutch Cancer Society (KWF), supports early-career researchers who are ready to establish an independent research line in oncology.

The program supports hypothesis-driven projects across basic, preclinical, clinical, translational, and implementation cancer research, while also helping investigators develop scientific independence and leadership.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants must be early-career researchers seeking to establish a strong and independent oncological research line.
  • The project leader must hold a PhD degree by the start of the project.
  • The application deadline must fall within five years of the applicant obtaining their PhD.
  • The proposed project must be hypothesis-driven and capable of being led independently by the applicant.
  • Eligible projects can range from basic and credentialing research through creation of modality, preclinical, clinical and implementation research.
  • The same project cannot simultaneously be submitted through another KWF funding call.

Funding Details

  • Maximum funding: €1,000,000
  • Suggested project duration: approximately 4 years
  • In exceptional cases, approximately €400,000 in additional funding may be considered for major expenses such as essential research equipment.

Deadline

  • Pre-proposal deadline: October 6, 2026, 12:00 noon
  • Full proposals open: January 2027
  • Full proposal deadline: April 1, 2027, 12:00 noon
