The Melanoma Research Alliance (MRA)–Society of Surgical Oncology (SSO) Young Investigator Award 2026–2027 supports early-career investigators conducting innovative melanoma research.
The award aims to attract and support the next generation of melanoma research leaders through funding for original preclinical, translational, and early clinical research projects focused on improving melanoma detection, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must be within the first five years of their first independent, full-time academic faculty appointment.
- Applicants must hold an Assistant Professor (or equivalent) position.
- Applicants must designate at least one mentor from the same institution.
- Applicants must demonstrate an independent research program.
- Applicants must hold SSO membership at the time of application.
- Applicants may be based at academic or nonprofit research institutions within or outside the United States.
Funding Details
- Funding: Up to $255,000 total
- Duration: 3 years
- Annual funding: Up to $85,000 per year
- Number of awards: One award supported through the MRA–SSO partnership.

- Award notification: Early April 2027
- Project start: June 1, 2027
