Radiation Oncology Fellowship Program

The Radiation Oncology Fellowship Program at the Juravinski Cancer Centre, McMaster University, offers a 1–2 year opportunity for advanced clinical and research training in radiation therapy. The program focuses on technological innovations across a range of treatment modalities and tumor sites. Fellows will be immersed in a dynamic academic and clinical environment with access to cutting-edge research and multidisciplinary collaboration.

Eligibility Criteria:

Field of Study: Fellowship streams include applications of Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), High Dose Rate (HDR) Brachytherapy, Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT), and Stereotactic Radiation Therapy (SRT). Training sites of interest may include:

  • Breast
  • Genitourinary (Prostate, Kidney, Bladder)
  • Lung and Esophageal
  • Head and Neck
  • Gynecological
  • Central Nervous System
  • Bone and Oligometastases

Research Focus: Fellows will receive structured training in scientific methodology and research, with opportunities in clinical trials, health services research, translational research, and technology evaluation in radiation oncology.

Institutional Setting: The Juravinski Cancer Centre serves approximately 5,000 new cancer patients annually across Central West Ontario. The center is a leader in clinical trial accrual and collaborates with several cooperative groups.

Academic Pathways:

  • 1-Year Fellowship: Option to enroll in the Graduate Diploma in Clinical Epidemiology (GDCE), part of McMaster’s internationally recognized Health Research Methods (HRM) programs. Learn more

Citizenship: Canadian citizens and permanent residents will be given priority. International applicants with completed Radiation Oncology residency training, and who are eligible for an educational license in Ontario, work permit, and visa, are also encouraged to apply. Applicants must state one of the following:

  • “Yes, I am a citizen or permanent resident of Canada”
  • “No, I am not a citizen or permanent resident of Canada”

Fellowship Details:

  • Duration: 1–2 years
  • Start Date: July 1, 2026
  • Location: Juravinski Cancer Centre, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada

Application Requirements:

All application components must be submitted in full. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.

  1. Complete the Fellowship Application
  2. Eligibility for CPSO (College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario) License
  3. Curriculum Vitae, including academic appointments, publications, certifications, awards, and professional memberships
  4. Three reference letters, including one from your Residency Program Director
  5. Cover letter detailing your personal learning goals and preliminary ideas for a clinical/research project
  6. Medical school transcripts
