Damon Runyon Quantitative Biology Fellowship Award 2027

Damon Runyon Quantitative Biology Fellowship Award 2027

Due Date: 12/01/2026

The Damon Runyon Quantitative Biology Fellowship Award supports computational scientists who combine quantitative analysis, data science, algorithms, and mathematical modelling to address important biological questions, particularly in cancer.

The three-year fellowship is designed to prepare promising scientists for independent careers in computational cancer biology. Fellows conduct mentored research under two established investigators: one specialising in computational science or a “dry lab” discipline and one specialising in cancer biology or a “wet lab” discipline. Projects may address cancer causes, mechanisms, therapies, prevention, or related biological questions through innovative quantitative approaches.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Applicants must be computational scientists interested in the intersection of quantitative biology, data science, and cancer research.
  • Applicants must hold a PhD, MD, MD/PhD, DDS, DVM, DO, equivalent degree, or have completed all requirements for an eligible degree before the fellowship begins.
  • Two committed mentors are required: one from computational science or a “dry lab” and one from cancer biology or a “wet lab.”
  • Applicants must apply before receiving their first Assistant Professor appointment or equivalent.

Funding Details:

  • The fellowship provides three years of support.
  • Year 1: USD 76,000 stipend plus USD 2,000 expense allowance.
  • Year 2: USD 78,000 stipend plus USD 2,000 expense allowance.
  • Year 3: USD 80,000 stipend plus USD 2,000 expense allowance.
  • Total standard support over three years is USD 240,000, including USD 234,000 in stipend support and USD 6,000 for educational and scientific expenses.
  • The Foundation may repay up to USD 100,000 in qualifying medical-school debt for eligible physician-scientists. Candidates must first apply to the NIH Loan Repayment Program.

Deadline:

  • Application deadline: December 1, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. Eastern Time.
  • Selection meeting: February 26, 2027.
  • Fellowships may begin on the first day of April, May, or June 2027.
