The NIH Common Fund PRIMED-AI Development and Testing of a Multi-use Frameworks Playbook supports the development and preliminary validation of standardized frameworks for the responsible and effective use of multimodal artificial intelligence in precision medicine.
The program aims to create practical guidelines, protocols, and standard operating procedures that can help move multimodal AI-based clinical decision-support tools from development toward reliable real-world clinical use.
Eligibility Criteria
- Eligible applicants include public and private institutions of higher education.
- Nonprofit and eligible for-profit organizations, including small businesses, may apply.
- Eligible U.S. governmental and tribal organizations may also apply.
- Foreign organizations are not eligible to apply.
- Non-U.S. components of U.S. organizations are not eligible.
- Projects must propose at least two distinct frameworks for development.
- Clinical trials are not allowed under this funding opportunity.

- Funding: Up to $300,000 in direct costs per year

- Estimated total program funding: $2 million
- NIH expects to make approximately 5 awards.
