KWF: Risk-Based Screening – Research Call 2025

The Risk-Based Screening – Research Call 2025 by the Dutch Cancer Society (KWF) supports multidisciplinary research projects to build, validate, and implement evidence-based, risk-based breast cancer screening approaches for individuals with a very high genetic predisposition, such as BRCA1, BRCA2, or PALB2 mutations. The goal is to enhance early detection and prevention while preserving quality of life.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The project must be carried out by a multidisciplinary consortium of at least four partners, including a dedicated project manager.

  • The consortium must include experts in breast cancer screening, behavioral science, communication, health technology assessment (HTA), qualitative research, research methodology, and societal organizations.

  • Patient and citizen perspectives must be incorporated from proposal development through to dissemination of results.

  • Only validated risk models and established screening technologies will be used; exploratory discovery and new screening tools are out of scope.

  • An (early) HTA analysis must be part of the proposal.

  • Proposals must address ethical, legal, and social implications (ELSI), including informed consent and data privacy.

Funding Details

  • Total available budget: €2–4 million (shared with the infrastructure initiative).

  • Projects should aim for sustainability and, if possible, include in-kind or matching contributions.
