
KWF: Risk-Based Screening – Research Call 2025
The Risk-Based Screening – Research Call 2025 by the Dutch Cancer Society (KWF) supports multidisciplinary research projects to build, validate, and implement evidence-based, risk-based breast cancer screening approaches for individuals with a very high genetic predisposition, such as BRCA1, BRCA2, or PALB2 mutations. The goal is to enhance early detection and prevention while preserving quality of life.
Eligibility Criteria

The project must be carried out by a multidisciplinary consortium of at least four partners, including a dedicated project manager.

The consortium must include experts in breast cancer screening, behavioral science, communication, health technology assessment (HTA), qualitative research, research methodology, and societal organizations.

Patient and citizen perspectives must be incorporated from proposal development through to dissemination of results.

Only validated risk models and established screening technologies will be used; exploratory discovery and new screening tools are out of scope.

An (early) HTA analysis must be part of the proposal.

Proposals must address ethical, legal, and social implications (ELSI), including informed consent and data privacy.
Funding Details

Total available budget: €2–4 million (shared with the infrastructure initiative).

Projects should aim for sustainability and, if possible, include in-kind or matching contributions.

Funding covers multidisciplinary research but excludes clinical trials or new screening technology development.
