The American Society of Hematology Global Research Award (AGRA) supports emerging international leaders in hematology as they transition from training toward independent research careers. The award is specifically designed for researchers based outside the United States and Canada and supports both malignant and non-malignant hematology.
Projects may involve basic, translational, patient-oriented clinical, or outcomes-based research, as well as pilot studies, collaborative projects, research training at other institutions, and other career-development activities. Depending on project duration, successful applicants may receive up to $150,000 for up to three years.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Applicants must be based in a country other than the United States or Canada.
- Applicants must hold an MD, PhD, MD-PhD, or equivalent degree.
- At the LOI deadline, applicants with an MD or equivalent must generally be within 16 years of medical school graduation.
- Applicants holding both an MD and PhD must be within 16 years of MD graduation.
- Non-U.S./Canadian citizens temporarily training in the United States or Canada may apply only if they hold an academic position at an institution in their home country to which they will return after completing training.
- Applicants may receive the Global Research Award only once.
- There is no limit to the number of applications from one institution, laboratory, or country, although ASH states that only one award per institution or laboratory will be granted each year to maintain programmatic balance.
