The AGA-R. Robert & Sally Funderburg Research Award in Gastric Cancer supports an established independent investigator developing novel approaches to understanding, preventing, treating, or curing gastric cancer.
The award welcomes basic, translational, and clinical research focused on gastric cancer pathobiology, gastric epithelial malignancies, precancerous conditions, diagnosis, treatment, epidemiology, and gaps in gastric cancer surveillance and clinical practice.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Applicants must hold an MD, PhD, MD/PhD, MBBS, MBChB, DO, or an equivalent degree.
- Applicants must be established independent investigators working in gastric biology or gastric cancer research.
- PhD applicants are considered established when at least seven years have elapsed since receiving their doctoral degree by the award start date.
- The applicant’s institution must be located in the United States, Canada, or Mexico.
- Applicants must be members of the American Gastroenterological Association when the application is submitted.
- Members of the AGA Institute Governing Board cannot apply while actively serving on the Board.
- Recipients offered a comparable award before the first AGA payment must select one award and cannot retain both.
Funding Details:
- The award provides USD 100,000 over two years.
- Funding is provided at USD 50,000 per year.
- One award is expected to be issued.
- Eligible expenses include the Principal Investigator’s salary and benefits.
Deadline:
- Application deadline: September 15, 2026.
- Applicant status notification: On or before January 31, 2027.
- Funding start date: April 1, 2027.
