
ESMO Research Fellowship
The European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) offers one-year Translational and Clinical Research Fellowships to young oncologists seeking advanced training and collaborative opportunities at world-renowned cancer institutions. The program supports both bench-to-bedside translational research and clinical oncology research, aiming to foster global collaboration, professional development, and scientific excellence.
Fellowships are awarded competitively based on the scientific merit and feasibility of the proposed project, as evaluated by the ESMO Leadership Development Committee.
Fellowship Types

Translational Fellowship
Focus: Bench-to-bedside research
Goals: Learn cutting-edge translational research methods, develop international collaborations, and execute impactful research at top institutions

Clinical Fellowship
Focus: Clinical oncology research
Goals: Conduct high-quality clinical research, build professional networks, and engage with global leaders in cancer care
Funding Details
- Amount: €60,000 for a one-year research project
- Host Institute Support: €1,000 for administrative costs
- Location: Global (international host institutes)
- Availability: 10 fellowships annually
- Includes 2 fellowships dedicated to gender medicine and cancer care inequality research
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be an ESMO member
- Must be aged 40 or younger at the time of application
- Must be a medical, radiation, or clinical oncologist engaged in cancer research or clinical practice
- Must demonstrate proficiency in English or the language of the host institute
Timeline & Notification
- Application Deadline: of Awards: May 29, 2025
- Award Start Date: As agreed with host institution
- Awardees: Invited to the YO Fellowship Session at ESMO 2025
- Complimentary registration provided (travel/accommodation not included)
