The Cancer Research Horizons Data Catalyst provides up to £100,000 to help researchers prepare cancer datasets for wider academic and commercial use. Previously called the Data Innovation Awards, the scheme supports activities that improve data quality, accessibility and reuse.
Funding can help turn existing or planned datasets into resources for further research and product development, alongside expert support for data-sharing strategies, permissions and commercial partnerships.
Eligibility and Application Criteria
- Applicants must have generated, or be developing, a high-quality cancer dataset.
- Additional funding must be needed to make the dataset suitable for sharing.
- Existing Cancer Research UK funding is not required.
- Recipients must allow Cancer Research Horizons to lead academic and commercial reuse arrangements.
- Appropriate ethical approvals for international and commercial reuse must exist, or applicants must have a plan to secure them.
- Applications should explain the dataset’s value, proposed expenditure and expected improvements in usability.
- Assessment considers dataset size, linked data types and longitudinal or multiple-sample information, with flexibility for rare conditions.
