The National Cancer Institute (NCI) Research Opportunities in Cancer Epidemiology Cohort Studies U01 supports large-scale cohort research addressing important knowledge gaps in cancer etiology and survivorship.

Projects may use established cohorts, expand recently formed cohorts, or establish new cancer epidemiology cohorts, combining hypothesis-driven research with long-term follow-up, biospecimen collection, data sharing, and cohort infrastructure. Application budgets are not capped, and projects may receive support for up to five years.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible applicants include public and private institutions of higher education.
  • Nonprofit organizations, with or without 501(c)(3) status, may apply.
  • Foreign/non-U.S. organizations are eligible to apply.
  • Non-U.S. components of U.S. organizations are also listed as eligible.
  • Any investigator with the appropriate skills, knowledge, and resources may serve as PD/PI.
  • Applicant organizations may submit multiple applications if each is scientifically distinct.

Funding Details

  • Funding mechanism: U01 Research Project Cooperative Agreement.
  • Budget: No fixed maximum; budgets must reflect the actual needs of the proposed project.
