The Breakthrough Cancer Research–Musgrave PhD Scholarships 2027 support doctoral research focused on cancers with poor prognoses. Two awards are available: the Breakthrough Cancer Research PhD Scholarship and the Musgrave PhD Scholarship, offered in partnership with Breakthrough Cancer Research.
The call supports clinical, biological, epidemiological and public health research, with patient benefit at the centre of each proposal.
Eligibility Criteria
- Research must be undertaken at a university in Ireland engaged in cancer research.
- Projects must fall within clinical, biological, epidemiological or public health research.
- Research must focus on ovarian, lung, brain, liver, oesophageal, pancreatic or gastric cancer.
- Proposals must be patient-focused and aim to improve outcomes.
- Each principal investigator may supervise or co-supervise only one application.
- Academic references must be submitted by the separate reference deadline.
Funding Details
- Maximum funding: €140,000 per scholarship.
- Duration: Four years.
- Number available: Two scholarships.
