The UT MD Anderson Cancer Center Postgraduate Physician Assistant Fellowship in Oncology is a 12-month clinical training program designed to prepare physician assistants for careers in adult medical, surgical, and radiation oncology.
Fellows receive structured didactic education and hands-on clinical training in multidisciplinary clinics, hospital wards, operating rooms, and other oncology settings. Participants complete 17 core rotations, may pursue elective rotations, and prepare a manuscript or poster suitable for publication on an oncology-related topic.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Applicants must be students or graduates in good standing of a Physician Assistant program approved by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant.
- Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Applicants must obtain a Texas physician assistant licence before the program start date.
- Employed applicants must provide at least one reference from their current supervising physician.
- Recent graduates must provide at least one reference from their program director or a clinical faculty member.
Funding Details:
- The competitive fellowship stipend for fiscal year 2026 is USD 105,000.
- Fellows receive benefits available to UT MD Anderson clinical trainees.
- Participants may incur professional expenses for books, professional memberships, conferences, and similar costs.
- Estimated out-of-pocket professional expenses are no more than approximately USD 1,000.
- The program typically fills approximately three fellowship positions per cohort, depending on available funding.

- One recommendation letter must assess the applicant’s clinical skills, while the other must evaluate their academic or didactic abilities.
- Original PA-school transcripts are required directly from the institution after an applicant is offered a position.
- Fellows receive practical experience in oncology procedures, bone marrow aspiration, biopsy interpretation, immunocompromised-patient management, and the interpretation of radiologic, laboratory, and pathological findings.
