This initiative by the American Cancer Society (ACS) supports research aimed at improving wellness among cancer survivors by exploring the impact of mind-body-spirit approaches, increasing the adoption of healthy behaviors, and implementing well-being interventions. A consortium of HEALED investigators will meet annually to share findings and promote collaboration.
Eligibility
- Available for Postdoctoral Fellowships, Clinician Scientist Development Grants, and Research Scholar Grants
- RSG applicants may be at any career stage
- Applicants must follow standard ACS grant policies unless otherwise noted
- Revised and resubmitted HEALED applications from Spring 2024 are permitted
Scientific Scope
- Must address quality of life or outcomes in cancer survivors
- Must include both patient-reported outcomes and objective measures (e.g., VO2 max, cortisol, skeletal muscle index)
- Emphasis on studies with translational or implementation focus in diverse or understudied populations
Example Research Topics
- Meditation for fatigue and sleep
- Stress coping strategies and their impact on milestones and biomarkers
- Yoga for cognitive decline in survivors with anxiety/depression
- Exercise and nutrition for chronic treatment effects
- Healthy behavior strategies in culturally specific groups
- Mindfulness for smoking cessation, alcohol use, and weight loss
Grant Term and Budget
- Research Scholar Grants: 215,000 USD/year direct costs for 4 years
- Also open to Postdoctoral Fellowships and Clinician Scientist Development Grants under standard terms
