The NCI Community Oncology Research Program Research Bases funding opportunity supports institutions that serve as scientific and operational hubs for community-based cancer research across the United States.
Research Bases will develop and conduct multi-institutional clinical trials and other human-subject studies in cancer control, prevention, screening, symptom management, quality of life, and cancer care delivery while providing statistical, regulatory, data-management, and operational leadership for the NCORP network. Eligibility Criteria:
- This is an institutional UG1 cooperative agreement, not an individual investigator grant.
- Renewal applications are limited to existing NCORP Research Base awardees funded under the previous RFA.
- Eligible organizational categories include public and private higher-education institutions, nonprofit organizations, for-profit organizations, certain governmental entities, tribal organizations, and other eligible domestic organizations, subject to the additional NCORP requirements.
- Foreign institutions are not eligible to apply.
- Non-U.S. components of U.S. organizations are not eligible.
- Applicant organizations must maintain required registrations including SAM.gov, Grants.gov, and eRA Commons.
- Applicant organizations may submit more than one application when each application is scientifically distinct.
- Cost sharing or matching funds are not required.
Funding Details:
- Individual grant amount: Not specified.
- NCI intends to provide approximately USD 74.5 million in total FY2027 program funding.
- Up to seven Research Base awards are expected.
- Application budgets have no fixed maximum, but requested funding must reflect the actual needs of the proposed Research Base.
- Applicants should request a six-year project period.

- Application deadline: September 18, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. local time of the applicant organization.
- Scientific merit review: March 2027.
- Advisory Council review: May 2027.

- Research Bases must conduct cancer control research, including studies addressing cancer symptoms, treatment-related toxicities, symptom-management interventions, biomarkers, and quality of life; cancer prevention and cancer care delivery research may also be included.
- Funded Research Bases will provide scientific and statistical leadership, protocol development, data management, regulatory oversight, auditing, quality assurance, and operational support for NCORP Community and Academic Community Sites.
- Research may include cancer prevention and screening, symptom management, survivorship, end-of-life care, quality-of-life studies embedded in treatment trials, and pragmatic cancer care delivery studies.
