The UC Cancer Research Coordinating Committee (CRCC) Faculty Seed Grants are one‑year intramural seed awards for UC Academic Senate faculty across the 10 UC campuses to launch or pivot cancer‑relevant research in any discipline (basic, clinical/translational, public health, law, social sciences, psychology, health services, implementation science, community‑based research, etc.). The program is designed to generate preliminary results that position projects for larger external funding.
Eligibility Criteria:
- PI eligibility: UC Academic Senate faculty (≥50% UC payroll) with initial UC appointment ≥1 year before Oct 1, 2026.
- Application category: Choose one—NAP (initial appointment Oct 1, 2020–Oct 1, 2025) or REG (all others; NAPs may not apply as REG).
- Funding cap: Ineligible if total direct research support >$350,000 in the award year.
- Limits/restrictions: One proposal per year; REG max twice in any 3-year window; one resubmission within 2 years; nonconsecutive awards only; REG must propose new projects (no logical extensions). LOI approval required.
Funding Details:
- Award: Up to $85,000 direct costs; 1 year (Oct 1, 2026–Sept 30, 2027); no indirect costs.
- Allowable costs: Trainee support (encouraged), technical help, project-specific supplies/services/equipment (justified), community-based research activities, research-only data-collection travel.
- Not allowable: PI/co-I salary, subcontracts, clinical trials/patient care, office supplies/books, meetings/conference travel, memberships, fundraising.
- Availability: ~$2M expected for new awards (not guaranteed).
