The SBI Research and Education Fund Seed Grant supports 1‑year pilot or early‑stage breast imaging research projects that improve screening, diagnosis, or treatment of breast cancer, including patient experience and workflow. It is explicitly aimed at seeding innovative projects that position investigators, especially SBI members, for larger external funding.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Applicant must be an SBI member working in the United States or Canada.
- PI must not previously have been PI on a single project of USD 100,000 or more.
- Project must be related to breast imaging (screening, diagnosis, treatment, patient experience, or breast‑imaging workforce/career issues).
- Applicants may be at academic institutions or clinical/community‑based organizations; all career stages (including trainees) are eligible.
- Applicants from under‑represented groups are strongly encouraged to apply.
Funding Details:
- Amount: Up to USD 40,000 total for a 1‑year project.
- Indirect costs: Not allowed.
- PI salary: Allowed within the direct‑cost cap.
- Supports personnel, supplies, and other project costs; capital equipment is not the focus.
