The American Brain Tumor Association (ABTA) Discovery Grants provide one-year, high-risk/high-impact funding of USD 50,000 to early-stage faculty-level investigators. These grants support novel projects with the potential to change current diagnostic or treatment paradigms in adult or pediatric brain tumor care. The goal is to generate preliminary data that will enable recipients to compete successfully for larger-scale funding in the future.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Applicants must hold a doctoral degree (MD, PhD, DrPH, DO, or equivalent).

  • Must hold a full-time faculty position at the time of Letter of Intent (LOI) submission.

  • Must not have held a full-time faculty appointment before September 1, 2018 (exceptions allowed for documented leaves).

  • Applicants within the first five years of their first faculty appointment (after December 31, 2020) are required to have a Lead Mentor.

  • Mentors must hold a full-time faculty appointment at the same institution and conduct brain tumor research.

  • The Lead Institution must be a non-profit organization (not governmental) responsible for managing funds and reporting.

  • Applicants may submit only one LOI per cycle and may not hold another ABTA grant concurrently.

Funding Details:

  • Amount: USD 50,000 (direct costs only).

  • Term: 1 year.

  • Earliest Start Date: September 1, 2026.

Deadline:

  • LOI Due: December 10, 2025 (12:00 PM CST).

  • LOI Decision: February 23, 2026.

  • Full Application Due: March 30, 2026.

  • Applicant Notification: July 29, 2026.

  • Grant Start Date: September 1, 2026.
