
Burroughs Wellcome Fund — Career Awards at the Scientific Interface
Five-year, USD 560,000 transition award for cross-trained physical/computational scientists moving into biology to launch independent research careers; strong emphasis on interdisciplinary work, with priority for AI/ML and climate–health proposals.
Eligibility Criteria:

PhD in math, physics, chemistry, computer science, statistics, engineering (or proven equivalent expertise); MD eligible only with qualifying PhD.

12–60 months of postdoc research experience by Jan 12, 2026; at least one first-author peer-reviewed publication.

U.S. or Canadian nonprofit host; citizens, permanent or eligible temporary residents (visa required).

No accepted/held tenure-track assistant professor post at LOI, full app, or interview; ≥75% effort to research.

Not holding/accepting NIH K99 or similar transition awards; one CASI LOI per cycle.
Funding Details:

Total USD 560,000 over 5 years: Postdoc years ~USD 100k/yr (min 1, max 2); Faculty years USD 120k/yr (years 3–5).

No indirects; flexible research use (equipment > USD 20k or travel > USD 8k needs prior approval).

Budget not required at LOI/full-proposal stage; annual reports required.
