
AGA Pilot Research Award
Pilot funding for new research directions in gastroenterology or hepatology. One-year awards of USD 40,000; 14 awards available. Supports early-career investigators launching careers and established investigators exploring novel lines of inquiry.
Eligibility Criteria:

MD/PhD (or equivalent) with a full-time faculty (or equivalent) position at a North American institution (U.S., Canada, Mexico).

AGA membership at submission.

Research can be basic, translational, or clinical and must be GI/hepatology relevant.

Early career applicants need a mentor; early career defined as ≤7 years post–GI fellowship (MD) or ≤7 years since PhD (PhD) by April 2026.

Instructors/assistant professors require a support letter from division chief/department chair.

Established investigators must explain how the project departs from prior work.
Funding Details:

USD 40,000 total for 1 year.

Allowable: PI and key personnel salary/benefits; biostatistics; supplies/animals/equipment/other research materials.

Not allowed: mentor salary/benefits, indirect costs, travel.

Aim to generate data leading to subsequent, larger grants; final reporting required.
