
CPRIT Recruitment of Established Investigators
CPRIT will fund Texas institutions to recruit world-class senior cancer researchers (typically full professor or equivalent) whose work has made outstanding, sustained contributions. The mechanism strengthens Texas’s research capacity with strong institutional commitment and a focus on CPRIT priority areas.
Eligibility Criteria:

Applicant must be a Texas-based not-for-profit research institution; public or private companies are not eligible.

PI must be nominated by institutional leadership (president/provost/VP for research/dean) and may be nominated by only one institution.

PI must hold a doctoral degree, be at the rank of professor (or equivalent), not reside in Texas at submission, and devote at least 70% effort to research; co-investigators are not allowed.

Collaborating organizations may be inside or outside Texas, but non-Texas entities cannot receive CPRIT funds.

Institutional commitment must equal or exceed 50% of the proposed CPRIT award for the full duration; matching funds equal to one-half of CPRIT funding must be demonstrated at contract execution and annually.
Funding Details:

Up to USD 6,000,000 total costs over up to 5 years; non-renewable. Indirect costs capped at 5% of the total award (≈ 5.263% of direct costs). FY26 individual salary cap: USD 225,000.

Funds may support PI salary and extraordinary first-year equipment (with justification); construction/renovation is not allowed. Travel for up to 2 project staff to CPRIT’s conference is permitted.
