CPRIT Research Training Awards for Workforce Development

CPRIT will competitively renew institutional Research Training Awards to develop the next generation of cancer researchers (predoctoral, postdoctoral, and clinical fellows) through robust didactic and mentored research programs at Texas institutions. This cycle is limited to renewals of currently funded RTAs with a contract end date of May 31, 2026; new RTA applications are not accepted.

Eligibility Criteria:

Applicant must be a Texas-based institution of higher education (or component of a university system) with accredited degree-granting programs where applicable.
One renewal application per institution in this cycle.
Only renewals of RTAs with a current contract end date of May 31, 2026 are eligible; original award must be terminated early if the renewal is funded.
PI must hold a doctoral degree, be a full-time Texas resident during the award, and hold rank of associate professor or professor (tenure-track/tenured). Single PI model; coinvestigators may lead components (no “Co-PI” designation).
Applications that include a summer undergraduate cohort will be administratively withdrawn.
Standard CPRIT conflict-of-interest and eligibility restrictions apply (e.g., contributions to CPRIT/CPRIT-related foundations; relationships to Oversight Committee members).

Funding Details:

Amount: Up to USD 1,000,000 per year for up to 5 years (maximum USD 5,000,000 total). Indirect costs capped at 5% of the total award (≈5.263% of direct costs). No construction/renovation.
Matching funds: Prior to disbursement, recipient must demonstrate available funds equal to one-half of CPRIT funding at contract execution and annually thereafter (public/private higher-ed may credit the federal IDC differential toward the match).

Deadline:

RFA release: August 5, 2025.
Online application opens: September 9, 2025 (7:00 AM CT).
Application due: December 2, 2025 (4:00 PM CT).
Review: March 2026.
Award notification: May 2026.
Anticipated start date: June 1, 2026.
