
CPRIT Recruitment or Retention of Clinical Trialists Award
The Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) will fund Texas-based institutions to recruit or retain experienced oncology clinical trialists to expand access to phase 2/3 therapeutic cancer trials in rural and underserved communities across Texas.
Eligibility Criteria:

Applicant must be a Texas-based public or not-for-profit institution, health system, or community hospital serving rural/underserved populations; private companies are ineligible.

One application per institution.

PI requirements: MD/MD-PhD/DO (or equivalent); Texas license (active for retention nominees) and Texas residency by contract start and for award duration; oncology subspecialty training and credentialed for oncology patient care; nominated by an institutional leader.

Focus must increase access to phase 2–3 therapeutic trials in community settings; surgery-only, radiation-only, imaging-only, behavioral/prevention-only trialists are not appropriate.

Institution must guarantee 40–50% protected time for the PI and provide an institutional financial commitment ≥ 50% of the CPRIT award over the grant term.
Funding Details:

Amount & term: Up to USD 2,000,000 (Assistant Professor), USD 2,500,000 (Associate Professor), or USD 3,000,000 (Professor) over 5 years.

Allowable uses: PI salary support within USD 225,000/FTE CPRIT cap for protected time; essential trial staff (e.g., research nurses, regulatory managers); trial start-up costs; no construction/renovation.

Indirect costs: Up to 5% of total award (≈ 5.263% of direct costs).

Institutional match (contractual): Before funds are disbursed, recipient must demonstrate available matching funds equal to one-half of CPRIT funding at execution and annually thereafter.
